The One Thing We Keep Apologising For (And Why It’s Time to Stop)

Have you ever noticed how often we try to make ourselves smaller?
It shows up in the tiniest, everyday moments. We say “sorry” when someone bumps into us in the supermarket. We quiet our voices in meetings, we tuck our elbows in, and we subconsciously try to occupy as little physical and emotional space as humanly possible.
If you look at all those moments, they all boil down to one single thing we keep apologising for...
Existing.
For so many of us, we’ve been quietly conditioned to believe that being "good" means being small, quiet, and out of the way.
But it's exhausting, and we are so ready to stop.
The trap of waiting to be "ready"
We promise ourselves that we’ll put ourselves out there after.... After we lose a few pounds. After we feel more confident. After we buy the right clothes, or get the right qualification, or finally feel like we "fit in."
But life doesn’t start when we suddenly become perfect - there is no perfect. It’s happening right now, in the bodies and minds we have today, and when we spend our lives shrinking and waiting, we aren't just saving space for later... we are actively missing out on our own lives.
What taking up space actually looks like
"Taking up space" sounds like a big, intimidating concept. It conjures up images of being loud, demanding attention, or forcing yourself into the spotlight. But at BodiBlossom, we believe it’s actually much simpler, and much gentler than that.
Taking up space is just giving yourself permission to exist fully and without apology. It’s standing tall in a room because your feet deserve to be planted there. It’s speaking up because your thoughts have value. It’s moving your body because it feels good to move, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
We saw this beautifully in action last week at our After Dark show. Seeing people step onto that stage - unfiltered, real, and entirely themselves. It was a massive reminder of what happens when we stop asking for permission to be seen.
The energy in the room didn't come from perfection. It came from the pure, electric joy of people refusing to shrink anymore.
You don’t have to do it alone
If you’ve spent a lifetime trying to stay small, learning to expand can feel incredibly scary. It’s a practice, and some days are easier than others. But you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.
BodiBlossom is a safe place where you can just let your guard down and be exactly who you are. We a community of women, that will stand beside you, and cheer you on as you take a deep breath, step forward, and claim your space.
Whether that means joining us for a class, coming to a show, or just quietly reading along with us here—you are so welcome.
Let's stop apologising for existing, and start taking up space, together. 💜
